Why did you start running?
I was a cross country runner in high school, but didn't start back up until i decided to get back into shape in my mid 30's. Running was my choice as it was accessible and I knew how to jump back in. No fancy gear or memberships were needed. I've been running consistently again for almost 20 years.
How has running changed your life or mindset?*
It really is my therapy. Its the one place where I can put away everything and just get lost in my thoughts. Long runs, early in the morning, watching the sun rise...thats where I am at peace.
Funniest or most memorable thing that’s happened to you while running?*
Running the anchor leg of a 10K relay at the US Snowshoe National Championships in a borrowed kilt. Not a running kilt either. It was a wool, Star Wars themed kilt. Our quirky, last minute team managed to grab a win though, so it was worth it!
Favorite snack or treat after a run? 🍕🍓*
After I get done leading the Wednesday evening workout for our track club, I love to swing into Burger King and get a bacon cheeseburger and fries.
One piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out?*
Be patient and consistent. The changes will happen if you stick with it. Running and fitness in general, is freedom to explore the world around you. Savor that ability and make the most of it!
